JPN1011 Computer Lab Session 2

Typing Practice

1. Genki-Online
Go to the Genki-Online self-study page, choose "Lesson 5: Adjective Present Negative" and practice. When you finish, go back to the previous page and practice with "Lesson 5: Adjective Past Affirmative."

2. Lesson 5 Grammar Page
When you finish the typing practice, go to the Lesson 5 Grammar page, and practice.

3. E-mail to Teacher
When you finish the Lesson 5 Grammar page, open Microsoft Word and practice writing a message in Japanese. Imagine you are traveling somewhere on your vacation. Write a greeting message to Tazawa-sensee, including the following information.

 (1) The name of the person to whom you are writing (Tazawa-sensee) *(1)
 (2) Opening greetings.
 (3) Where you are now. How the weather is.
 (4) What you did and how you felt.
 (5) When you are going to come back.
 (6) Closing greeting.
 (7) Today's date.

 (8) Your name. *(2) and *(3)

NOTE:
*(1) Do not put a comma after the name of the addressee.
*(2) Write your full name on the left-hand side. Place a black dot between the first and last names. To type the dot, hit the slash (/) key on PC.
*(3) Do not put “-san” at the end of your name!!
(4) Make one line blank between each paragraph. (You do not need to have an indent.)

Double check the message and send it to Tazawa-sensee (tazaw001@umn.edu) via e-mail. Name the title as “JPN1011 e-mail to teacher”. DO NOT send the message in the rich text format. If you are using Gmail, you can just copy and paste the Japanese message in the text area. If you are using other e-mail software, attach the Word document to the e-mail just in case the message turns into “MOJIBAKE” (gibberish).

4. Invitation message for up-coming weekend
You will write an invitation letter to Yokoi-sensee. The content can be real or you can make it up. The message should include the following.

(1) Yokoi-sensee
(2) Invite her for at least one activity over the weekend (activity, the date, time, and location).

Make the invitation attractive if possible.
(3) Closing greetings and your name.

Double check the message and send it to Yokoi-sensee (horii001@umn.edu) via e-mail. Set the title as “JPN1011Thanksgiving”. DO NOT send the message in the rich text format.
