Scholarship Information
Objective
The University of Minnesota China Center in cooperation with the Embassy of
the People's Republic of China in Washington DC is pleased to offer a full academic-year
scholarship to a U of M undergraduate or graduate student for study at a university
in mainland China. The scholarship will cover tuition, room and board, and will
pay a small monthly stipend to cover books and incidental expenses. International
airfare, health insurance, the physical exam requirement and any study abroad
service fees are not included.
The Chinese University
All universities under the authority of the Ministry of Education are open to
application. The China Center will recommend several universities; if the applicant's
research or academic goals require that he or she attend a university other
those that are recommended, the applicant may propose an alternative university
to the selection committee.
Eligibility
- applicant must be enrolled in a degree-seeking program at the University of
Minnesota
- applicant must be a U. S. citizen
- for graduate applicant: must have completed a minimum of 3 years of Chinese
language instruction or demonstrate the ability to complete graduate level study
or research in Chinese.
- for undergraduate applicant: must have completed a minimum of 2 years of Chinese
language instruction.
Application Process
Complete the application packet including:
- scholarship application form
- faculty recommendation
- language evaluation form
- personal statement of purpose
- current transcript
Selection Criteria:
- applicants should have a well-defined objective involving their program in
China and one in which the development of language skills is primary
- strong record of academic achievement
- strong motivation and potential for independent accomplishment in his/her
chosen field
Applicants will be reviewed by a committee; scholarship recipients will be notified of scholarship awards by mail approximately three weeks after the application deadline.
