2. 轻松 轻 (“light” as opposed to 重 “heavy; gave”) + 松 (loose) -> “relaxed”
3. 不以为然 不 (not) + 以 (deem, regard) + 为 (as) + 然 (“so, thus; correct”)
-> “not think [somebody or something] as right” -> “not think so”
6. 成熟 成 (“become; complete, accomplish”) + 熟 (the much altered “fire” radical
火 at the bottom -> “cooked”) -> “to ripen, mature”
8. 上进心 进 (“advance, progress”) -> 上进心: upward + advance + heart ->
“aspiration; the desire to better”
9. 观点 观 (见 “see; view” on the right) + 点 (“point”) -> “point of view”
11. 基础 基 (the “dirt, earth” radical土at the bottom) + 础 (the “石” radical on the
left) -> the dirt and stone at the bottom of a building -> “foundation”
13. 将来 将 (= 会, indicating the future tense) + 来 -> “yet to come; in the future”
16. 批评 批 (the altered “hand” radical 手on the left -> “slap [with one’s hand]”) +
评 (the altered “word” radical 言on the right -> “ comment [with words]”)
-> “to criticize; censure”
22. 缺点 缺 (the “pottery” radical 缶on the left; the right component meaning
“fissure” -> a narrow crack on the pot) + 点 (“point”)-> “shortcoming”
23. 压力 压 ( to “crush” 厂 the “dirt” 土) + 力 (force; power)-> “pressure”

a drum” -> “to spirit up; to encourage”) + 励 (use “strength” 力 on the
“whetstone” 厉 -> “to whet; to exert, rouse”) -> “to encourage”
