2. 闹翻           (like the “market” moved to your “door” -> “noisy; to make a

                      noise; to make a scene”) +  (the “feather; wing” radical , which is

                      shaped like a pair of wings” -> “(of birds) turn over wings” -> “to turn

                      over” -> “turn things upside down”) -> “to have a falling out; break off”

 

4. 详细          (the “words” radical -> “to talk about in detail”) + (the altered

                      “thread” radical on the left -> “thin as a string of thread” -> “finely;

                      meticulously”) -> “detailed; in detail”        详细地讨论

 

10. 开朗         (“open” -> “open-minded”) + (the “moon” radical -> “bright as

                      the moon”) -> “(of temperament) outgoing”      他性格十分开朗。

 

11. 脾气         (“spleen”) + (“air; gas”) -> The Chinese believe that human

                      dispositions are determined by the “gas” emission from the spleen. ->

                      “temperament; temper; disposition”          我女朋友的脾气很好。

 

12. 急躁        (the “heart” radical -> “restless; keen, eager”) + (the “foot” radical

                      -> “stomp one’s feet [because of being restless and worried]”) -> “(of

                      temper) impetuous; impatient”         我爸爸的脾气有点儿急躁。

                      

21. 交往         (pictograph: cross-legged -> “cross; cross over”) + (“head for”) ->

                      “to interact; to socialize; to have dealings (with)”       跟别人交往

 

24. 背景        (the “flesh” radical and the sound component -> “back of the

                      body”) + (“scene; scenery, landscape” as in 风景) -> “background”

 

33. 打破          (the altered “hand” radical -> “to hit; to punch”) + (the “stone,

                       rock” radical -> “to break, crack, or burst”) -> “to break into pieces”
