Chinese 1011, Fall 2002 (Evening Class)

Instructor: Teaching Specialists and Teaching Assistants


This is the first semester of a two-semester sequence in first-year modern Standard Chinese (Mandarin) for undergraduate students who are non-heritage speakers of Chinese. Students are introduced to the sounds of Mandarin, basic grammar, vocabulary, and the Chinese writing system. The course consists of two lectures and five recitation classes per week. By the end of the first semester, students are expected to be able to write about 270 Chinese characters, recognize about 370 characters, conduct a basic conversation, read simple texts or conversations, and write some correct sentences in Chinese.
